Indefinite Integrals Practice Problems

Practice indefinite integrals with step-by-step solutions and detailed explanations

Many practice problem sets are either too easy or way too hard, or they don't explain anything. So I put together these indefinite integrals practice problems, the kind that actually show up on exams, with explanations that make sense. No fluff, just problems that'll help you get better.

Each one has a solution you can check, and I've included the step-by-step work so you can see exactly how to approach it. Some are straightforward, some will make you think. That's the point. Work through them at your own pace, and don't skip the explanations. That's where the real learning happens.

Key Things to Know When Learning This

That +C isn't optional.

I know, I know. It seems pointless. But every indefinite integral needs it. When you differentiate, constants disappear. So when you integrate back, you have to account for that. A common mistake is forgetting it on exams. Just add it. Always.

Check your work by differentiating.

This is the best trick in the book. Got an answer? Differentiate it. If you get back what you started with, you're golden. If not, you know something's off. It's like having a built-in answer key. Use it.

Memorize the basics, but understand why.

Yeah, you should know that ∫e^x dx = e^x + C. But don't just memorize it. Understand that e^x is special because its derivative is itself. That's why the integral is also e^x. Understanding the "why" makes the "what" stick better.

Practice regularly, not all at once.

Cramming doesn't work for integration. Your brain needs time to process these patterns. Do a few problems every day rather than 50 in one sitting. You'll actually remember more, and it won't feel like torture.

Watch those negative signs.

Seriously. More mistakes come from sign errors than anything else. When you're doing integration by parts or working with trig functions, go slow. Double-check your negatives. It's worth the extra 30 seconds.
