What is Addition?
Combining quantities to find a total
Addition is one of the four basic arithmetic operations. When you add numbers, you combine them to find the total (sum). Start with the ones place, then tens, hundreds, and so on. When a column sums to 10 or more, you carry to the next column.
Place Value
Add from right to left, one place at a time. When a column exceeds 9, carry to the next place.
Practice Addition →Carrying
When a column sums to 10 or more, write the ones digit and carry the tens digit to the next column.
